Soma.planet és un grup de música experimental nascut a mitjans dels anys 90. Inicialment va ser integrat pel músic i pintor Ivan Jordà i el guitarrista i compositor Tete Pérez; músics que van posar les bases, aportant els primers temes i estructures a la música de Soma.planet, molt influenciats als inicis per grups com King Crimson, Gong, Can, o embryo, però adquirint paulatinament un estil personal.

A finals dels 90 s'incorporen a la banda el baixista i contrabaixista Marc Prat i el baterista Àngel Abad... En tot aquest període el grup va dedicar tot el seu temps en buscar fòrmules d'interpretar música que permetessin alhora trencar amb les estructures i harmonies tradicionals seguint patrons d'improvització que s'han anat construïnt poc a poc, partint de la música com un joc.

A principis del 2001 marxa Ivan Jordà, després de dos memorables concerts a Mataró, al Bar-biblioteca Arcàdia, i la banda segueix tocant a trio. El mes de maig Soma.planet fa un concert de presentació al Saló de Pedra de l'Ajuntament d'Argentona, incorporant al Saxofonista Francesc Gómez "furmi" i eventualment al Teclista Marc Trullàs.

Des del 2001 al 2003 la banda actua per diferents indrets del país tocant principalment a quartet, Andreu”Tete” Perez a la guitarra theremin i veus, Àngel Abad a la bateria, Francesc”Furmi”Gomez al saxo i al steel guitar i Marc prat al baix. En aquesta època cal destacar entre d'altres el concert que es va celebrar al clap al 2002 compartint cartell amb Embryo, mític grup Alemany dels anys 70 que encara continuen en actiu i que fusionen la música ètnica amb el rock i amb el jazz mes avantguardista.

A mitjans del 2003,i gracies a la col·laboració de Ernest Penalba i Beckmann ( productor executiu de la banda) comença la gravació del primer CD oficial als, estudis 44.1 de Girona, gravat i mesclat en tan sols 4 dies per falta de pressupost però acollint molt bona critica a nivell nacional i internacional.

Simultàniament els membres de Soma.planet Comparteixen unes sessions d'improvisació amb els músics Jaume Catà (Cat), Raül Saldaña (Mèxic), Heidi Che (Xina), Ivan Jordà (Cat), Xavi Lloses (Cat) i el vídeo dj. Christian Herraiz (Cat) amb els qui formen Soma project.

Soma project neix de la necessitat improvisativa del grup i la voluntat de compartir experiències musicals tant amb altres músics com amb altres artistes de diferents vessants de la creativitat. Amb aquesta formació fan alguns concerts dels quals podem destacar el que van fer al festival de jazz de Girona on van compartir cartell amb Aka Moon, Carles Benavent i Nass marrakesh entre d'altres.

Com a Soma.planet també havien col·laborat amb Alquímia del sol, grup de Barcelona que fa projeccions interactives a partir de diferents tècniques.

Al juliol del 2004 tornen a tocar a la sala clap però aquest cop compartint cartell amb el grup de rock laietà Maquina que desprès de 30 anys es tornen a agrupar per oferir alguns concerts. Seguidament, i després d'altres concerts de la banda, al setembre organitzen el primer festival psicojazzetnicprogressiu d'Argentona amb Maquina, Embryo, Soma.planet, Hysteriofunk, Terrae ignota garana, Planeta imaginario i tabla tarang.

El grup es comença a preparar per la seva aventura oriental.

A l'octubre del 2004 els integrants de Soma.planet viatgen a la Xina com a convidats en dos grans esdeveniments, Fringe festival i Wacfest. Allà ofereixen 4 concerts amb molt d'èxit, incorporant a la banda el pianista i teclista Xavi Lloses, productor i músic en el nou disc de Jaume Sisa, ampliant la formació a quintet. Seguidament, dos dels components de la banda, Furmi i Tete viatgen a Benares (India) per estudiar música clàssica Hindú, on més tard es troben també amb Marc Prat, baixista de la banda. Allà fan una estancia de 3 mesos i adquireixen coneixements tant d'intruments autòctons com de composició.

Els membres de la banda van tornant paulativament i al Abril del 2005, ja tornen a estar preparats per a una nova etapa i es preparen per la gravació del seu segon treball. Fan uns canvis en la formació original incorporant al grup a Fede Marsà, baterista i percusionista amic del grup, i es tanquen al local d'assaig per preparar el que esdevindrà el seu nou repertori.

Soma.planet is an Experimental Music Band born in the mid 90's. Initially it was integrated by musician and painter Ivan Jordà and Guitar player and composer Tete Pérez; both the ones to set the bases of the group, composing the first songs and structures of soma.planet music. At first very influenced by bands such as King Crimson, Gong, Can, or Embryo but progressively achieving a personal style

around '97, bass player / painter Marc Prat joins the band along with drummer Angel Abad... In all this period all the efforts and time were dedicated in finding formulas to play music that permitted at the same time breaking with traditional harmonies and structures following improvisational patterns built slowly in time, starting in understanding music as a GAME, and having as a result an always fresh show and, over all, always different.

February 2001 Ivan Jordà Leaves the band, after two great concerts in library-Bar Arcadia, and the band keeps on playing but some times in duo or Trio. May 2001 Soma.planet records a live concert in Argentona, in where piano and keyboards player Marc Trullàs joins the group, as well as Saxophone player Furmi, resulting the "Free Action" improvisation, also recorded.

From year 2001 to 2003 the band plays in different stages around the country, mainly with a quartet lineup; Andreu "Tete" Perez playing theremin guitar and voices, Àngel Abad playing drums, Francesc “Furmi” Gomez playing saxophone and steel guitar and Marc Part playing bass. In this period it is necessary to highlight among others the concert that was celebrated in Clap, Mataró ( Barcelona ), 2002 sharing stage with Embryo, mythical German group of the seventies still active, merging ethnic music with rock and with the most avant-garde jazz.

In the middle of year 2003, and thanks to the collaboration of Ernest Penalba Beckmann (executive producer of the band) soma.planet starts recording its first official CD in 44.1 studios in Girona, recorded and mixed in just 4 days because of the lack of budget but receiving very good critics at a national and international level.

Simultaneously the members of Soma.planet Share some sessions of improvisation with the musicians Jaume Catà (Cat), Raül Saldaña (Mexico), Heidi Che (China), Ivan Jordà (Cat), Xavi Lloses (Cat) and video dj. Christian Herraiz (Cat) and with all they form soma.project.

soma Project originates from the improvisative need of the group and the will of sharing musical experiences with other musicians as well as with other artists of different aspects of the creativity. With this lineup some concerts of which we can highlight the one that took place in Girona jazz festival where they shared festival lineup with Aka Moon, Carles Benavent and nass marrakesh among others.

As Soma.planet they also have collaborated with Alquimia del sol, group of Barcelona that makes interactive projections out of different techniques.

In July of 2004 they play again in Clap, Mataró, sharing stage with 70's layetan rock band “Máquina” put together afer 30 years of first musical experiences, offering some concerts. Next, and after other concerts, in September the band helps to promote the psicojazzetnicprogressiu festival of Argentona with bands maquina, Embryo, Soma.planet, Hysteriofunk, Terrae ignota garana, Planeta imaginario and tabla tarang.

The group starts preparing the oriental adventure.

In October of 2004 the members of Soma.planet travel to China as guests in two great events, Fringe festival and Wacfest. There, producer and musician in the new record of Jaume Sisa, broadens the quartet to quintet, offer 4 concerts with a lot of success, incorporating the piano and keyboards player Xavi Lloses into the band. Next, two of the components of the band, Furmi and Tete travel to Benares ( India ) to study indian classical music, where later they meet also Marc Prat, bass player of the band. There they make a 3 months stage and they acquire knowledge of autochthonous instruments as well as of composition.

The members of the band progressively keep on coming back and in April of 2005, they are already prepared for a new stage and they prepare themselves for the recording of their second work. They make some changes in the original line-up incorporating friend of the band into the group, Fede Marsà, drummer and percussionist, and they close up in the premises of rehearsal to prepare the one that will become their new repertoire.
